Legal research in China is crying out for a change. The legal system is becoming increasingly more developed, with the number of lawyers and law firms growing fast. But, as the industry gets more professional, lawyers are finding their research tools coming under greater pressure. In most cases, the tools are simply not up to the task. According to Che Hu, editorial director at Thomson Reuters Legal, China, many PRC lawyers are still using internet search engines such as Google and Baidu to find laws and other related information.
“By and large that’s not really a very efficient way of doing legal research,” Che Hu says.
