Protection of private property and human rights are now officially enshrined in the PRC Constitution.

Main contents: The PRC Constitution has been amended to include protection of private property and human rights. Article 13 is revised to read as: "The lawful private property of citizens shall not be violated. The state shall protect the private property right and inheritance right of citizens in accordance with the law. The state may, in the public interest, expropriate or requisition private property of citizens in accordance with the law and shall provide compensation therefor." The clause "The state respects and preserves human rights" is added to Article 33. Also, the phrase "martial law" in Article 67 is replaced by "entering of the state of emergency".
