Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison client Citigroup announced an agreement on March 6 2007 to make a US$10 billion all-cash tender offer to acquire 100% of Nikko Cordial Corporation. Nikko is a leading Japanese securities brokerage, asset management and investment banking firm. Citigroup engaged Paul Weiss in 2003 to help it analyze various options regarding the acquisition of Nikko. Since late 2006, when an accounting scandal led to the resignation of its chairman, president and other senior officers, Nikko has been considering its options, which has led to the agreement with Citigroup.
