    Wu Lihong, an environmental advocate known for his campaigns against pollution of Tai Lake in eastern China's Jiangsu province, was arrested on April 13 2007 and continued to be detained as at press time. Local officials are accusing Wu of extortion and blackmail, yet his supporters believed that the arrest is a direct result of his environmental advocacy work.

    In continuation of her husband's efforts, his wife, Xu Jiehua, has filed a lawsuit in the Beijing No 1 Intermediate People's Court against the State Environmental Protection Administration to demand that it remove their home city of Yixing from its list of "model environmental cities".
