Mainland China's leading arbitral institution has released rules for conducting arbitrations online, in an attempt to increase the speed and ease of its dispute resolution process.
The new Online Arbitration Rules of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) came into effect on May 1. According to a Commission announcement, the new rules are applicable to any commercial disputes, but will initially be used to resolve “disputes related to electronic commerce and economic and trade issues”.
