Chinese Exporters Conduct “Origin-Washing” to Avoid Trump Tariffs



Chinese exporters are falsifying the true origin of their goods destined for the U.S. by shipping their products via third countries to avoid hefty U.S. tariffs of up to 145%.

Social media platforms like Xiaohongshu are filled with advertisements offering “place-of-origin washing”—i.e., re-issuing a new certificate of origin in third countries for goods destined for the U.S.
